5th – 15th August 2018.
The call for the 2018 International Summer School of Archaeological Science offered by Petnica Science Center (Valjevo, Serbia) is now open. Students of Archaeology, Science and related fields are invited to apply for a ten-day experience. Our interactive program is focused on a personalized training analysis of materials and accompanying documentation which will provide our participants with international knowledge required by the modern standards in archaeological research. A maximum audience of 12 participants is required for this year and the call is open to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.
The Petnica 2018 ISSAS program consist of theoretical and laboratory sessions and a one-day field trip to nearby archaeological sites. The main goal of the course will be to investigate interconnectedness between traditional research questions, the archaeological context and the use of the appropriate instrumental techniques that offer precise empirical results. Petnica 2018 ISSAS will cover topics such as basic theories and approaches in archaeology and science, fundamentals of archaeological documentation procedure, processing archaeological artifacts and application of the most common physical-chemical analysis in modern archaeological research, such as spectroscopic (XRF, FT-IR) and chromatographic (GC-MS, HPLC) methods.
